Resource Critique Activity

I chose the Vocabulary Mastery CPALMS resource, as I would like to become a high school English teacher one day. I generally found that this resource did a great job of teaching students fifteen new vocabulary words by including relevant graphics that will do a great job of helping students remember the words. I also thought that it was effective that in addition to giving the definition of the words the resource also included a sentence using the word and bolding and italicizing the word to help it stick out. The source even gave the word's origin and included it in yellow. I personally find changing the color to be a great way to help students remember information.

One problem I had with the resource was that it took a very long time for each new piece of text to pop up in the slideshow. I don't know if this was just happening for me on my desktop here in class, or if this is an actual design flaw. If it is just a design flaw, it would require a teacher to keep scrolling on the bottom for new text and slides to pop up. I suppose the extra time may be the time it takes for average students to copy down the material, in which case I wouldn't have a problem with it and would actually find it to be necessary.

This resource would also work well as a study tool for students to use at home to prepare for quizzes and exams. I think it is helpful that part of the resource separates words based on their part of speech, so students can learn the material in an organized fashion instead of trying to cram a bunch of completely unrelated words into their head. Students will find it easy to switch gears when they've gotten sick of or have studied all of the adjectives and decide they would like to learn nouns or verbs. I think it would be helpful if this resource included more words, as just fifteen will not be nearly enough new words for an entire school year. However, the resource does a great job with these fifteen, even including a synonym and antonym section and a matching activity to help the students learn the words.
