ILP "Participation" Lynda Tutorial
The Lynda tutorial that I completed focused on helping to troubleshoot problems when formatting documents on Microsoft Word. I used my newsletter assignment to help me complete the tasks explained in the video, since the newsletter includes different types of fonts, which ends up coming into play during the tutorial. Below is a screenshot of my document before making any changes to it. I have included screenshots and explanations the steps I followed in the tutorial below.
First, I will include a screenshot of the Lynda tutorial I completed.

First, I will include a screenshot of the Lynda tutorial I completed.

First, I turned on the paragraph icon in order to turn on formatting. As you can see below, this allows us to see where each paragraph begins.

I was then instructed to turn off macro recording, after right clicking on web layout. I did not know how to right click on my laptop, so looked it up and found that it all I had to do was click on the mouse and hit control at the same time.

I then was instructed to turn on line number, in order to be able to indicate the exact line that we are editing. As you see below, line number is now checked off. Page number is also checked off. This comes into play in the next screenshot. Ignore the caps lock highlight. This was accidental.

After turning line number on, you can see on the bottom lefthand side of the screen that it shows the exact line that I have highlighted.

The video then switched gears and taught me how to use the format painter tool in order to highlight a line and then use the same font on another line. All I needed to do was highlight the line, click the format painter tool, and then highlight the line whose font I wanted to switch.

I then used the clear formatting button in order to clear all of the formatting for a particular section of the document. As you see, the section below that is highlighted only kept it's original font, but all other sections of it were lost including background.

The last thing the instructor explained how to do was changing the style of a single line or a chunk of text within the document with more options than the usual font type, font size, and bolding or italicization.

Here, you see the advanced options available to change the style of the line.

This assignment took me about an hour and a half to complete, not including the time it took me to document my tutorial completion on my blog. It took me twenty minutes to set up my Lynda account, fifteen minutes to find a tutorial that would work for the assignment, and then about an hour to complete the tutorial. I ran into some trouble in the the second half of the video when the video narrator discussed how to change the document's style, adding to the amount of time the task took. The assignment would have taken much shorter had I been using the same year Microsoft Word as the instructor in the video. This did not end up being an issue, but did cause me to come to a few times during the assignment in which I couldn't find the buttons the instructor was showing, as they were in slightly different places within Word.
